Re: [Harp-L] Re: make your amp sound better

Back in the '70s all us young broke married guys used to build our own Hi Fi speakers..i built a pair from plans published in the British Hi Fi News mag. They were called di pole or something similar ,used a KEF(twincone) 200 speaker and the Bass was awesome...reggae never sounded better.
But you would never of played any classical music on them , Piano especially would of (did)sounded like crap.
Point is this: the plans as shown disregard every principle of good quality sound reinforcement known to man (and his woman) ..caveat here..that is if you are looking for pure undistorted music playback.
Now most(all) of us are not looking for any sort of musical fidelity in a blues harp amp ,in fact usually it is the exact opposite of what we crave so as it stands the idea is a good, albeit old idea based on solid physics.
You know those old copper washing machine tubs? Best sound i ever got from my Fender Champ was when i put one behind it as an acoustic amplifier(sealed the coupling with cardboard and duct tape). But unfortunately certain band members decreed that it was not quite the 'look' that the they thought the band should have ..and they were right.
I suppose what i am saying is that it'll work and might sound good but jeez can't they make it look a bit less like a 12 year old made it...I can only imagine what a great job our Smo- Joe would do.(homemade screws ,mitre'd marine plywood ,glue made from the hooves of the Arabian Onyx ;)
Merry Christmas all

What an interesting idea!

Should be useful for emphasizing bass content for smaller amps. One
should realize the effects of a folded horn of sorts

Placing your amp on the floor or near the room corner "couples"
acoustical energy with the floor & room, emphasizing bass content,
which could allow one to achieve more desirable effects without having
to build this amp stand/acoustical energy emphasizer/horn.

Cool, though.

Ray.
